Limberlost Trail Basalt Columns

Description

Here is an example of columnar basalt from the Catoctin Formation seen on the Limberlost trail in Shenandoah National Park. Unlike the columnar basalts elsewhere in the park, these have been tectonically deformed and sheared from their original vertical orientation.
