This model was converted from a two-dimensional drawing published in E. Montule' 1821*Voyage to North Americam and the West Indies in 1817* and depicts his visit to Charles Willson Peale's Philadelphia Museum when a reconstructed mastodon was shown mounted with its tusks down.
