Fossil from the Murk Esk river

Description

Found in the riverbed alongside the Rail Trail and George Stephenson's 1835 railway, which is old enough. But this plant, looks like a cycad, maybe Zamites from the Middle Jurassic, was growing in Beck Hole 170 million years ago. Now that's old!
