La Abadía de Montecasino es una abadía benedictina situada en la cima de una colina del Valle Latino, a unos 130 km al sur de Roma; una milla al oeste de la ciudad de Cassino (la Casinum romana había estado en la colina) y a unos 520m de altitud. Está en el sur de la región italiana del Lacio. Es célebre por ser el lugar donde San Benito de Nursia estableció su primer monasterio, origen de la orden benedictina, alrededor del año 529, y por ser el lugar de varias batallas hacia el final de la 2ª GM. The Abbey of Montecasino is a Benedictine abbey located on the top of a hill in the Latin Valley, about 130 km south of Rome; a mile west of the town of Cassino (the Roman Casinum had been on the hill) and about 520m above sea level. It is in the south of the Italian region of Lazio. It is famous for being the place where Saint Benedict of Nursia established his first monastery, origin of the Benedictine order, around the year 529, and for being the site of several battles towards the end of the 2ª WW.
