In 2015, archaeologists discovered a Native American celt in Test Unit 700 (700B ) of the African American Cemetery excavation. A celt is a type of axe made by grinding the end of a cobble with an abrasive stone to form a smooth, sharp cutting edge. The celt is believed to have been set in a socketed wooden handle, and was likely used as a woodworking tool.
