* Period/Epoch: Paleogene/Paleocene * Rock Formation: Ferris Fm. * State, County: WY, Carbon * This specimen was found on Federal Land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Taxonomy: Mammalia>Proteutheria>Palaeoryctidae Palaeoryctidae was a group of primitive eutherian mammal from the Late Cretaceous of North America. They were small insectivores similar to shrews and had an elongated snout. Not much is known about their actual size, and some scientists consider the group to be obsolete since the name is used as a “wastebasket”. This specimen shows part of the dentary of the animal.
