Urban furniture speaks to how democartic a public space is. Often hostile and defensive architecture is employed to deter skateboarding, loitering, and public urination and is inherently anti-homeless with sloped surfaces, spikes and studs to make activities such as sleeping uncomfortable and impractical, this targets the vulnerable disproportionately. How we design and apply these as designers says alot about who we are as well as whether we really live in a truly democratic society.
